Food news nosh and yes....a doughnut for your morning

**Johnny’s is on the move apparently as they close up their Hayes Valley location for new digs…..somewhere? No locale set yet so stay tuned**

lime poppy seed doughnut $3.50

What better way to start your work week than with a doughnut bigger than a bagel. That is what you will get at Johnny Doughnuts. I finally managed to get by their new Hayes Valley brick and mortar location 1--while they were still open and 2--when they actually had some doughnuts left to choose from. Seems the place is quite popular, much like their food truck version. I know I've been a fan of most everything I have tried. The apple fritter being one of my faves. This time around, it was late in the day and the supply was dwindling, but I did see this lime poppy seed and a hit of tangy citrus seemed just the thing. Normally they do this in light airy version but today it was available as an old-fashioned. A thick cakey doughnut with a puckery lime sugar icing on top. More than enough to get the lime in most every bite. While enjoy one of the puffed up donuts, the old fashions offer the heft I crave in desserts. Plus their doughnuts are huge, which is nice considering the price. Bigger (and I think better) than the ones you find at Dynamo Donut for the same price. Can you tell I'm of big fan of Johnny? I mean I have to have someplace since my block away local Happy Donuts closed suddenly. Sadly, Johnny isn't open 24/7 for when I desire one, but at least I know they are there for me to get my fix. Now here's yours of food news.
